Four Poems Celebrating Women, phenomenal women

In this book my favorite out of the four poems was Still I rise. Still i rise was about not getting bring down no matter what. It is because who she is she wont be sad or cry. This is my favorite because it showed the strength we all have and she wont cry for small things either.
Phenomenal Women the main poem in this book is about how she is a mystery and how you can't read her it is that we are different in many ways. This one i thought was very inspiring because it showed how great we really are.
Weekend Glory is about even though she works at a factory all week. On the weekend she lives her own life. This poem showed how we all have our own life and different things to do we just have to make time for it all.
Our Grandmothers was difficult for me to understand really but i found that the words she most used was "I shall not be moved." So I think this poem is about the people she must leave behind and what will happen.
Connections:We can all be strong is what I think she believes and I agree.
Questions: What made the author think of writing "Our Grandmothers"?

Street Love- Ariel's over all Summary.

Summary:
The book street love, by Walter dean Myers is based on the story Romeo and Juliet. But in this story, it's about Damien and Junice. Junice has a hard life. Her mom's in jail, Mrs Ruby(her grandmother.) is loosing her mind, she has to take care of her sister Melissa who is 10 years old, and they barley have money.
Damien has a decent life, he has a well rounded family, he got a scholarship to a collage, and they have an okay amount of money. Then somehow Damien and Junice fall into a deep, passionate love.
They can't be without each other. But Junice's life keeps getting harder. Her and her sister are going to get taken away from Mrs. Ruby because they don't think she can take care of them. (because she's going crazy.) They will have to go to a foster home.. Junice doesn't like this idea; so she packs her stuff, and her sister, and they go to a train station to go to Tennessee
Damien had no idea where she was or where she was going until his friend Kevin told him. Damien went after Junice, and found her. They ended up both going to Tennesse, and might get married later on.

Connection:
A connection i have with this book is i liked this boy once, and felt like he could make my problems go away; and always make me feel better. Like how Junice felt about Damien, and how she relied on him.

Reaction: My reaction to when Damien went after Junice when she was leaving for Tennesse was wow. I couldn't believe he would do something like that for her, i thought it was so sweet.

The poet slave of cuba 1-end

The Poet Slave of Cuba

Juan Francisco Manzano is a slave in Cuba in 1797. He was a different kind of slave though. They would be treated better then other at first. He would be a like a poodle. Well that how he would call him self that. While other thought that he was treated more like a prince. They would teach him how to say word that would seem funny. His mother loved her son but, the other mother (Juan’s owner) wanted him too. By the way I thought that she kept him for her use. Juan’s owner was named La MarQuesa de Prado Ameno. His real mother was named Maria Del Pilar.

Juan is a very clever boy because he would know how to make poems. He would read other poems then take the form and main point to put it in his own words. Juan wanted to learn and because of his owner he was able to. Though when his owner got mad at Juan she would get the overseer and whipped him. For nine days he would be in a room and tied him up. Owww!! If you loved him and never want to leave him then why make him suffer. His real mother would cry ever time he was in there being whipped!

But one day they thought he had stolen a coin. Poor Juan and yes he said he did it because Juan thought she was right. They hurt him so much that they broken his nose.

Ever since they would blame thing on him. One time he was hit so hard that he couldn’t walk. Thanks to the overseer Juan was alive because the overseer wouldn’t hit him anymore behind Juan’s fake mother.

When she is nice to Juan she lets him stand behind her while playing cards. When she wins money she would give it to Juan.

His real mother saved up money to free Juan and her but when she did the other mother didn’t want to. They sometime would both be whipped. Juan loved his real mother that when she tried to stop his mother from crying. He did this by whisper in her ear poems about angles.

Then owner’s son named Don Nicolas takes Juan and becomes his owner. Now instead of bothers Don Nicolas is his “father“. Juan felt free though he couldn’t go outside with out Don Nicolas. While living there he would be challenged in a poem challenged. He would win every time. They called him the Poet Salve. Poet as his first name and Slave as his last name. He was famous and his fake mother and want him back home.

So, it was the same he gets blame and puts him in the room were he is whipped. Then she takes him back home feeling bad. She gives him money when she wins in the card games. Every bit she wins goes to him. Though he and his fake mother more like a step mother now would spend time, Juan would still make time for his real mother. Still one day she left and left money so he can be free. Instead he bout candles, paper and Ink to write poems at nigh when he is not working.

Though one day he found true love. Juan would send flowers to her. But not even that would be enough. So, one day he took off. Juan is a run away slave now and that’s the ending of the Poetic Slave. Juan wanted to be free.

I think Juan’s obstacle was that he didn’t know what he wanted until the end of the story. Like he didn’t know what side of the line he wanted to be on. The one where he is free or the one were he is with his step mother. Well that’s what I think. Juan’s adversity was His fake mother because she never wanted to let go of him. She would stop him from doing what he wanted which was to be free and write poems. I can learn from Juan is that it’s never too late to choice your life style. Like when at the end he ran away. I can put this in my life by think things though it might take you years.

What I liked was that Juan would be there for his real mother no mater what. He would tell her poems about angles so she would stop crying. Juan grows up faster to rilzes that he had to help his mom. To do that he had to heal him self. I didn’t like that for nine days Juan and sometimes with his mother would be in the room whipped too. That harsh if she cared about him so much that she wanted to be his mother.

I think someone that likes history and poems would like this because this was real. Juan is a real person and if you don’t understand poems then you can’t read this. If you get lost easily then don’t read this book. I rate it a 5 because I get lost sometimes. I think 11 and older can red this because of the harsh things that happen.

Tahis Arias

Emerald Zamora Chinese Cinderella

And she will be going to college in England. Her father says yes you do have potential. So she goes, But she was too young before to find out finally she was an orphan. But it was a pretty good book and i liked it so I would like to read another book like this again because it had A lot of suspense.

Questions:
Why did the book end like this ?
Will they make a second book about this?

The Midwife's Apprentice

Chapters 1- 5:
This book The Midwifes Apprentice is about a girl named beetle that was homeless and parentless. A lady named Jane, the towns midwife, found beetle sleeping in a dung heap(a pile of excrement from animals.) She offers her food and a place to sleep in return of work as the midwifes apprentice and that's how she became.

Question:
1. Why is Jane so mean to beetle?
2. Why can't beetle help during the birth?
Prediction:
I think what will happen next is that Jane is going
to go away for a few days and beetle is going to have
to give birth to a baby because Jane isn't there.
Reaction:
My reaction was happy for beetle because she go a place
to sleep other than poop and food. I was also mad because
Jane was being so mean to beetle.

Summary 5-10:
In these chapters, beetle names herself Alyce. She also names the cat Purr. In the village they are all finding the mysterious creature that left hoof prints all throughout the village. They believe that it is the devil. While she's picking apples, she sees willy and his pregnant cow. They are stuck so she helps deliver the calfs and they find out that the cow had twins. At last Alyce gives birth to her first real baby by herself.

Questions:
1. Why does she get fed so little?
2. Why is Jane so mean and careless to the mothers while they are giving birth?

Prediction:
What I think is going to happen next is that she is gonna be
able to deliver more babies and that Jane is going to be nicer.

Reaction:
My reaction was happy that she got to deliver her first baby.

Summary 10-15:

In chapters 10-15, Alyce found a boy laying in the barn and she helps him find a name and gives him food. She names him Edward and sends him to the manor to find a job in return of food and somewhere to live. Also, Alyce runs away to a hotel to work for food and a place to sleep because she failed to deliver a baby.

Question:
1. Why did she run away? Everyone makes mistakes.,
2. Why didn't Edward have a name or parents?

Prediction
I think that Alyce is going to go back to Jane and try again.

Reaction
I was mad that she gave up and ran away just like that.

Summary 15-end

In chapter 15, Alyce goes back to the manor to get Edward but he is happy where he is and doesn't want to go back. In chapter 16, a man and a lady show up at the inn. They complain that the lady has has a stomach worm but everyone at the inn think that it is a baby. No one knows how to give birth to a baby except for Alyce so she steps in and helps give birth to the baby using all of the techniques Jane does. In chapter 17, the last chapter, Alyce does something that changes the whole book but if you want to know what it is then read the book The Midwifes Apprentice by Karen Cushman.

Question:
1. Why weren't any one helping the struggling lady?
2. Why did Alyce move to the inn in the first place?

Reaction:
My overall reaction of the book was happy because she started out poor, hungry and living in a dung heap and now she has a job, food, a name, and a place to sleep at night.

Prediction:

I think that in the future, Alyce is going to marry will, become a midwife, and have many kids of her own.

Ask me no questions

What happened in Ask me no questions is that the sister goes to college and the day before the quiz she got really sick and she ended up failing her quiz because she was one grade down and the teacher let her retake the quiz so she did get a better grade on it. But her mom dressed her in a winter coat and a lot of sock just so she wouldn't get anyone sick.

What i think of this book is that it is a better book than any other book i read from here because she ended up making the college she wanted to go to because her teacher understood that she was sick so her mom went in and talked to him and asked him nicley if she can retake the quiz and he let her.

What i think the other could've done better on is that not telling to much information at once because i kinda figured she was going to get sick because they told us before that she was going to fail and not make the school that she wanted to go to so yea.

Barcode Tattoo

The title of the book i am reading is barcode tattoo. This book is great. It is about a young girl who lives in a world where every citizen must get a barcode tattoo at the age of 17.The bar code tattoo talks about the new kind of identity in the United States. It’s to get a bar code tattoo as if we were things in store. After some months a girl called Kayla refuses to get the tattoo, she thinks that this tattoo could bother her life forever. This tattoo carries identity, social life, records, and bank accounts; well all the things that are under your name; including your genes.
Kayla’s parents were making her get the tattoo on her 17th birthday as a present. But when she was in line to get the tattoo she saw how the police killed a guy who had discovered some dark secrets about this tattoo; the only thing he said before he died was “don’t get a tattoo, the tattoo can control your genes.”

FREE AT LAST

This other chapter bout this book is all about black people that did something right for all of us. Like for example Martin Luther King JR helped all of us cause he fought for the right of all the Hispanics and black people. Martin Luther King JR help us get the same right as the whites. Or this other example Rosa Parks she helped the blacks and Hispanic sit in the front of the bus like the white men. Now in these days us Hispanics, blacks, and whites can sit in the front or back of the bus.

I make a connection to this chapter cause is like helping a homeless person or given people the rights they deserve like put your self in their shoes how would you feel is you ain't getting the rights you deserve that's how the black people and Hispanics felt.

My reaction to this book is that's incredible how Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks did that and how they convinsed people to joined people to fight for there rights.

Zen and the art of faking it

Zen and the art of faking it
I continued reading and now he is in class and was asked a question about buddhism. Everybody tried to avoid the question by not making eye to eye contact with the teacher. To bad for him he made contact and had to answer the question. After he answered he had a bit of trouble from a jock sitting behind beatle girl and he told him up by saying," If a monkey howls and nobody hears it, is it still a monkey?" Everybody had different thoughts about.
Will the jock start more problems with Zen after what he said to him or will they just ignore each other for the rest of the school year?
This reminds me of the time i went to a different school and some kids tried to scare me but turns out we became friends and some of them just ignored me.

Also onetime there was this creature an it came to there palace and he killed all of them and took 2 and try to ate them . Then Hrothgar came and took 1 of them . After he went to the oldest person who was the highest of all because he was scared because he didn't know what to do. So the highest king told the prince to go on a boat and find the creatures.

Athena

Athena was the sister of a wonderful god Zues. Athena had a lot of respect for Zues especially after what happened with their father the almighty Kronos. Kronos was a bad man so Zues had to straighten him out a little. Athena is agreat book I would recommend it to anybody who is into Greece and the Greek mythology.
My reaction to this book is that it is very  good and everyone should read it. I didn't think it was going to be that good but it turned out to be great.

The Popularity Papers

I have read The Popularity Papers this book is about two girls Lydia and Julie they are both friends but they are from different worlds Lydia a girl who is a want to be, following the populars around not knowing that who is her true best friend Julie. Julie a girl who dresses differently and has two dads, she has been going with the crowd doing the things the others want to do. At the end the both understand that they don't need the populars they all need is each other to be friends and not get social life in there way.

Question: Why would they get anything in there way of friendship?
Reaction: I was surprised about how people live today. Most people want to be popular and you have to be funny or hurt yourself to be popular. In the book it is similar to how both the best friends try to hurt one another to be popular or hurt them self.

FREE AT LAST

His real name was supposed to be Michael King but his dad changed it. His dad was a famous pastor at a local church. His dad named him after him cause his name was Martin too.

He was called a lot of things but he just walk right through them and finish college when i read that part I felt like he had a lot of faith in him self.

When he finished college he got married and had 4 children. He try to stay in a hotel but they didn't let him cause he was black so he just stayed at his friends house. When i read that part i felt like at least he had friends that cared bout him.

POET SLAVE Of Cuba!!!

The reaction.!!!!! my reaction of the ending was that it was grate and sad at the same time because of Juan, but i enjoyed that he finally freed himself and left that prison that he was supposed to call home. During one part of the story in a picture it looked like Juan had died because he was beat so bad, And he was very skinny, and you could see his ribcage. Also he was laying in his mothers arms and she was crying, and praying to the lord for her son not to be dead.
The Connection.!! I have a connection to the book, because in a movie i saw a 3 year old boy was being beat everyday. When he was the age of 16 he chooses to run away in a box that took him to America.

The end of the Poet Slave Of Cuba is very sad because before the ending it talks about how the slave Juan is dragged to a place were they send miss behaved slave to be beat and locked in a room naked with a lot of dead slaves and Juan felt like when door opened or something cracked that a ghost or spirit was coming in and every time it closed he was trapped with dead bodies all around him and spirits. Juan was being beat for nine days and then hung on the cross like jesus was. When I was reading this part of the story i felt very sad because i imagined him with blood all over his body from the beat and the blood coming out of his hands and feet. After the nine days of getting abused he went back to that horrible house were he went back to do his chores and everything he was told to do.! At the end of the book Juan finally said to him self its time to flee and be free from pain. and that same night as he left slaves that were already freed said "go don't waste any time my GOD be with you as you flee from Cuba. Juan left and never came back.
THE END.!!!!!!

The Skin Im In (part 2)

Summary:
Char is still being a jerk to Maleeka. Her crush Caleb Went up to her to talk, and Char says "She wants nothing to do with him, and doesn't want to hangout. So he should leave." Which isn't what Maleeka wanted to say at all. Then, a couple days later Maleeka goes to Char's sister Ju Ju's party.. She stayed for awhile but all Char was doing was waiting on the party. Bringing them food, drinks, ciggars, ect. So she decided to leave. On her way home some guys beat her up, and wanted to do "dirty" things to her. So she fought back then ran home. She didn't tell her mom about this inccedent until later.. She couldn't forget about what happend that day so she started writing about it, in her diary for Ameelka. But changed up the story to Ameelka's point of view. Later Maleeka over heard Ms. Sanders and another teacher talking.. They fianlly saw her after a while of Maleeka hiding to hear the rest of the convosation, They made her promiss not to tell anything she heard. Later Char found out she was Getting bad grades in Ms. Sanders class. For that, she wanted to get pay back. Big time. This was her 3rd year in 7th grade so Ju Ju would be very mad if she stayed back yet, agian. She had, The twin's and maleeka distroy Ms. Sanders room early in the morning before school started.. Then they ended up blaming all of it on, guess who? Maleeka. Maleeka got saspended from school, and Char threatened her to kick her butt/ mess her up if she told on her. She kept her mouth shut but eventully told Ms. Sanders and stood up for herself. A little while into the day Caleb wrote her the sweetest thing ever, and gave it to her in the hall. She cried and He walked her to class after.

Connections:
A connection i have with this book is that one time a boy wrote me the sweetest thing ever, and i cried to. Just like Maleeka did when Caleb wrote her that poem.

Reactions:
A reaction i have with this ending part of the book was that i was so mad when Char blamed Her messing up the classroom, all on her. She did it too so it was way wrong just for her to take the blame; when she was forced to do it.

Loving Natalee

The part that i am at is the mom is in Aruba looking for Natalee and trying to find any information that she can use to find out what happened to Natalee that night. They went to the hotel on the bench there it was Natalee's purple duffel bag Beth could barely handle the sight of her daughters belongings and last time she ever seen Natalee she was smiling and holding the purple duffle bag over her shoulder the morning she was going to leave her this tragic trip. So they left the hotel because they couldn't get the tapes tapes off the hotel video camera because the guy already left for the day. So they went to Carlos 'n Charlies the last place Natalee was seen before her disappearance and they still didn't get any evidence. Meghan(:<3

Reaction- Super Duper Sad!!!!!

Prediction-Hopefully they will find her!!1

Speak

At the end of the story, Malinda has now made friends in her new high school which it would have been a bad ending if she didn't. Now she can finally live the rest of her high school years peacefully with her new and some of her old friends. Hopefully she can get into a better relationship with her teachers and other students. THIS BOOK was so good i want them to make another book just like this one and about a boy this time to make it a little more interesting!!!!

Why don't they just tell everyone they aren't rebels?

BARACK by: Jonah Winter

I started reading this book about Barack Obama and it was very interesting. It talked about his life and his family. His father left him when he was little and he got a step father. His step father owned exotic animals and he had a pet ape and two crocodiles. he started giving speeches and inspiring people when he was still young. Then he ended up getting involved with people and is now the President of the United States.

How did his life affect him in either a positive way or in a negative way that brought him to be what he is now?

Reaction: Life is how you live it and if you live it well you could end up just like Obama.

Feet o' Jesus

At the feet o' Jesus Sorrow like a sea Lordy, let yo' mercy Come dritin' down on me. At the feet o' Jesus At yo' feet I stand. O, ma little Jesus, Please reach out yo' hand.

My connection for this poem by Langston Hughes is that i felt like i was in church talking to JESUS.
I felt like that cause it was my appreciation to JESUS to let me walk in his world and be thankful.

i felt good bout reading this book cause it was talking bout JESUS and how great he is.

zeus

this book i finish reading is about the greek gods. It is bout a greek god name zeus. his father name

Speak By:Emerald Zamora

  1. I'm almost at the END OF THE book and Malinda still has no friends yet. But she is very close to getting them. She still tries to look at her EX friends but no matter what they still don't pay any mind to her. It's like Malinda is a a ghost to them! She's still having a bit of trouble with school, the students, and the teachers but Malinda keeps trying to get into a good relationship with them all. The new girl she met is now her friend and they have become very very good friends too they like to hang out during school and after school. All i have to do now is read more chapters and i will finally finish the book.

My thought is that Malinda will get her old friends back and live the rest of her high school years peacefully.

HarrietTubman

SUMMERY:
The book I read was biography of Harriet Tubman. In the first chapter Harriet saved a little boy named Joe Bailey. This little boy was a slave and Harriet saved him from slavery. Joe was 6 when he started working his dad was caught warning him saying that “our slave owner was a mean horrible person and you must do what he said so you won’t get hurt by him” their slave owners name was peter or john or something like that. The slave owner had over heard what his dad had said and the slave owner sent his dad away. Joe and his mom was saved by Harriet. At the end of the book it says that harriet had built a house for all of the people who don’t have houses when she snuck them away from torture.

Final Ask Me No Questions Blog

Ask Me No Questions

In the last 3 or 4 chapters of Ask Me No Questions, after Nadira rips Tareq off and starts running away, she gets on a bus to where her mother is staying at the homeless shelter. While she is there with her mother, they go to there fathers court case to see if he is going to be deported of able to apply for a visa. Nadira talks to the judge and gets the judge to let Abba out of jail and apply for asylum. When they get home, uncle and auntie are packing all of there stuff and they said that they are moving back to Bangladesh. Also, Auntie told mom that Aisha has been skipping classes, missing college interviews, and helped Taslima move out to go live with her boyfriend. Nadira finds out that Ali-Uncle moved back also. After all of that chaos, they still seem to all put on a smile for Aisha's graduation. At her graduation she announces to everyone that she is an illegal alien. The day of there dad's hearing for application for the visa. If you want to know what happens in the hearing then read the book Ask Me No Questions by Marina Budhos.

Connections: None
Questions: Why couldn't they just apply for asylum in the first place? Why did Aisha announce that she was an illegal alien?
Reaction: I was surprised that Aisha had the guts to announce something like that. Also I was so happy for there family that they could now have a place to call home.
Prediction: I think that in there future, they are going to live a happy life.

I wonder why?... Bounds...

I read chater 10-20 in bound. It starts off with her and her half sister. Half sister has to bound her feet because in those times men wanted their wife to be very small. For exmaple their body, nose, feets and hands. If not then they won't marry as fast as others that have small feet and body. Xing Xing is not cared for so, she doesn't get to do the same as her half sister Wei Ping. But, I think that she is better off because Wei Ping is going though a lot of pain. The bounds to make her feet small hurt her so much that she lost a toe. OWWW!!!

You can tell that Xing is a good girl. she trys so hard to make Stepmother happy. Also she take well care of her sister when in pain even though she is kind of mean to her. She try so hard that I wonder why sometime. She still take care of her father's spit. Xing Xing brings him things that he would of like. Stepmother try to be good and nice when she at his grave. this is because she think that he will only see her when she at his grave. This made me think "I would commit suicide before I'd enter another man's bed." . Well i don't Know what see really ment. So, any ways Xing Xing wants to relly help her father. I can see that what she thinks about. Like even when teir is a boy like taking to her ad fiurting with her and she says no. Just to not for get about her father.

Dancing on the Edge

Satchel Paige

This book is all about a kid who wants to fulfil his dream to be a baseball player and pay for his family. When he goes to the Arena he finally meets Satchel Paige a joker at first but when the boy hits the ball its a foul, the next person comes up the boy runs to safe but broke his foot and couldn't play ever again and teaches his boy what he had done and what Satchel Paige did for him.
A connection I have with the boy is that he never gives up his dream and that what everybody wants from him, like me how I want to be a chef so I cook with my mom learning new recipes and when I get older that I will be a chef and learn new techniques.
My reaction of Satchel Paige is surprised because how he takes his time doing it right, and making the ball player get a grip. He teaches all the blacks that all the white people are not better than anybody.

The last part of the story is about a guy and he tries to hook up with a girl but then the guys crazy cousin comes barging through the door that didn't help at all.

Zen and the art of faking it

I kept reading on and his first day of school is not going all so well. He went to his first class and sat in a chair when suddenly it broke. Then he saw santa clause(his teacher) who helped him up. He figured out what he is learning is the same thing he already learned in his old school.
It was just like when I transferred I learned the same as every other school.

Will he be able to finish his first day of school?

FAHRENHEIT 451

This book is about fire men that don't put out fire they put the fire cause is a law for them not to read books. The man thats a fire men meet his neighbor on the way to his house. The girls aunt and uncle told her to tell every person she meet that she was 17 and that she was crazy. The man new she wasn't 17 cause his ex wife was 30 and she looked younger.

My reaction to this story was that how are kids going to learn how to read without books. Like they need books to practice reading. In this story if you read a book you get send to jail cause is a law to not read books.

I’m reading a book called Teen Choices. It’s about how teens make the right decisions for their future. Also it tells you what have they been trough in their life’s and what did they do to solve the problem that they were having. In some ways it tells you helpful ways to make right choices.

Have you had difficulties making the right choices?

Are you scared of what your friends might say about your decision that you are making?

Tip: don’t care what your friends say because that wont get you no where good. Think about your future and what you want for yourself. Be someone that a person would look up for. Be sure of what you are doing DON’T give up KEEP going!

Lawn boy By: Heateher Masse

And one day a random guy from his neighborhood saw him and said " how much you want" He was confused. and just like that he got a job. At the end of the summer he made $480,000 By just mowing peoples lawns!!

Loving Natalee

The book that I'm reading is Loving Natalee. So far what i have read is about how Natalee was a straight A student and was always on time for everything. So she asked to go to Aruba and her mom said yes just that she had to be careful and be safe. Natalee had to wake up really early in the morning so early that it was still dark out because her and her friend were going to meet up at one of there friends out so they can all go to airport together. So it was that morning Natalee came and woke her mom and said its time to go. So Natalee carried out her purple duffle bag out to the car and put it in the back while her mom followed her to the car to drive her to her friends house. So the car pulled up to the house and Natalee's mom said I love you and Natalee said i love ya to as she grabbed her purple duffle bag and carried to the house. before Natalee she waved good-bye to her mom and disappeared into the darkness of the house. That was the last time Beth Holloway seen her daughter Natalee again, because the day that they were supposed to leave for Aruba Beth got a phone call from one of the teachers saying Natalee never showed up for the hotel last night and no one can contact her.....................
My reaction for this book is its very good but shocking and emotional. -Meghan (:<3
In the book The Home Run King these boys Jimbo and Tank sneak into the negro league and one day the Mr.Munday stadium keeper caught one of the boys and wanted them to work for the chain gang to clean up after the white peoples trash that they left there. so they did that for 2 days and they made a deal with Mr. Munday to be the water boys for there favorite team and got to see the games for free. the season games went by fast and it was over so the boys did have anything to do. so they went down to the field and saw mr. munday nephew and he had a god idea and tank went to tell mr. munday. apllo told tank that we can make a negro league 4 kids and mr. munday said yes but Apllo couldnt play.

Dancing on the Edge

I'm reading Dancing on the Edge. It's about this girl named Miracle and how she was born in a weird way. She got her name because her mom got in an accident with an ambulance. The ambulance was on it's way to get some one else when the crash happened. They put Miracle's mom in the ambulance by the time they got the other person she was died and Miracle was in her belly. At the hospital they thought she was fat but then they found out she was pregnant. So they opened up her stomach and they saw a baby and she was tiny but still alive. Then when Miracle's grandma got a call and she rushed to the hospital. She looked at her but they said that she has be put up for adoption because they thought she wasn't her real grandmother. Things get sorted out and Miracle goes to live with her grandmother. She told her the story About the grandma said that her mom was dropped out of the sky . Then she started to cry because she was adopted.

Connection: When Miracle cried about being adopted this reminded me of when we tricked my brother. My brother was crying because we told him he was adopted . But we was tricking him and he started to cry.

american born chines

The book i am reading that i all ready finished on sunday american born chines was the best book i ever read i think is a bout this boy that has a brother and this monkey that is very mean and that all the good monkey turn with the bad monkey and at the beginning the people have a little party and all the good guys and the bad guys are having a good time together and there was lighting and the lightning hit the rock and the rock opened and the evil monkey came out of the rock and it took all the other good monkeys

The Rules Of Survival by Nancy Werlin

The Rules Of Survivals by Nancy Werlin is about abused children living with there mom. There mom is a drug user who tortures her children and beats them. Her word is fun. "Won't that be fun? Isn't this fun?" When you read this book you are the character Emmy and the book is a letter or reminder from her brother Matt.

One night when there mom Niki was out as usual (and she comes back one or two nights later) Emmy was sleeping and Matt and Callie snuck out to a mobile station. They then went in to the store to bye a treat but instead they found a person. His name was Murdoch. They met him like this. This kid stole a candy bar, his dad got mad and was going to hit him. Murdoch came and told him to hit him instead of the kid. Then the dad left and Murdoch bought the candy bar and gave it to Callie and Matt.

MAUS #2

The book Im reading is MAUS #2. The book is about the Holocaust like when it happened and why did it happen. The way they talk about the Holocaust in this book is that the jews are mice, the polish are pigs, and the german are cats. The Holocaust in this book is like the real Holocaust when it happened. It talks about the gas chambers, all the work they had to do, how much they got feed, where they hid, and how some people survive.
My questions are why did hitler had to do that and the other one is how much pain did the prisoners suffer.
My reaction was surprise cause only one man and troops killing over 43,000 jews.

American born chinese

The book American born chinese is about this kid name Jing wan. He had trouble making friends and trying to fit in

Q. Why do jing wan like transformers?
Connection:
When I was 12 I used to play with transformers with my brothers.

beowulf

The book Beowulf is about a guy who spend part of his life killing monster. His really brave. He went to war a lot and beat many monsters. He was not scared of any monsters. He would kill them. Its like he was born to kill monsters.

Reaction: My reaction to this book is that it was cool. Every hero I heard of fight the bad guys not monster.

Question: Why does he choose to kill monster instead of human?

MY FAVORITE POEMS
Names: I Can't Get Started-and Jump, Jump, Jump-It Don't Mean A Thing

1.On our church to church fund raising tours of the south
for the piney woods country life school,
we were the instruments who had the most breath,
and we were handled with consummate skill.

2. From the ballroom, The unsleeping eye of Jim Crow
Ever upon us,we traveled the United States
of colored America, bouncing on back-country roads
And gliding on highways. At picnics,we practiced our charts
our polished brass gleaming. We welcomed farm children who ran
one or two miles to be able to listen and dance.
Do you want to jump children?
_ Yeah
Do you want to jump children?
_ Yeah

Domestic, farm laborers, new hires in factory jobs;
The apollo, the royal, the regal, and the cotton club
redolent of Dixie-Peach pomade and Ivory soap,
They jumped til the stars disappeared and the roosters woke up.

3. On some tunes, she'd lash my bass home like a jockey;
on some all she did was high tickle the beat,
always gracefully making the transitions,
watching the music and the dancer feet.
The jitterbug was one way people forgot
the rapidly spreading prairie fires of war.
Man, the house would bounce when her licks were hot!
We gave those people what they were dancing for.

The reason i picked these poems is because these poems
from the heart and from an all girl swing band

Jazmiyn's Notebook

Summary The last part of this book is Jazmyn's dad died and now the only person she lives with her older sister and she has her friends right there to make her laugh and her mom is still in the hospital in a bed thinking about her and her sister. I think I feel bad or her and the mother because she is a little girl for. The other thing is that her dad died and now she cant see him I think I can relate to that because I cant see my dad because he is in Puerto Rico but the different thing is that her dad died. The last thing she has is her journal.

American Born Chinese

This book is about Jin Wang a kid who one day going to his mom job changes his life. Going to school one day he has a difficulty to make friends, get a girl and learn his true self through out the book. Danny a person connected to Jin Wang lives a life same as Jin Wang but has friends, likes a girl and does good in school all that Jin Wang wants as a kid. A monkey king in a distant in a mountain who learns the way of Kung Fu gets over himself with his master, imprison, saved and sent on a mission. In the end of this book all of these story's come together and reflects on Jin Wang as his true self.
Why did the author put the book the way he did?
My connection with this book is that sometimes people want to be somebody else, like maybe me when I see the "popular people" I want to be them and be noticed sometimes, but I realized that I will always be me and not be somebody else besides me.
-Emily D.
